Rock-Paper-Scissors

Rock – My friends went to Arcadia National Park in Maine last week and brought back to me a bag full of nice, smooth and flat rocks. I immediately grabbed one to draw a peacock design on it. Consider it an “itch scratched”

Paper – Finally, I had enough creativity in me to start working on some completely new projects. For example, I made some decent drawings that will eventually become Twilight-themed stickers/labels for one of my favorite Etsy customers/sellers, tweetynsylvester6, who is currently making candles out of recycled jars.

Scissors will have to wait for the picture, but I did make a very pretty cut-out wedding frame mat and decorated it with tiny silver doodles. That was another project that I had on hold for a while.

100th POST!!!

As usual, I had gigantic plans for this all-important super-significant Post #100, and as even more usual – I completely failed to fulfill my own expectations *blushing* Instead I will fill you in on what’s to come on this blog. Since I myself survive on making to-do lists, it wouldn’t hurt to make this one public, so the weight of responsibility will help pushing me toward my goals

* I am writing a big and hopefully helpful “It’s a Wrap” post, meant to inspire some new creative, cheap and attractive packaging and shipping possibilities for Etsy sellers.

* From now on, I will do my darnest to post at least every other day, rain or shine Here’s the plan for the themes:

Ok, I have a few things to report:

3. I have been very very busy this past weekend, and made a lot of pretty things. I also made some more paper beads (like the ones I had last summer) AND I finally got around to making some paper jewelry (I’ll show more when I’ll get a chance to take good pictures).

Finished Incarceron & More…

Well, here it is. I finished it, printed it out and am very happy with the results. This illustration is very “me” while allowing a peek at some of Incarceron’s hidden treasures:

And while I was drawing, this Bubbly Personality just showed up on a smooth river rock that was laying around. How could I resist?

People, I’m in love. My new beloved is smooth and shiny, it’s strong but very flexible. It’s called Speedball white calligraphy ink! It goes on my smooth rocks beautifully!!! I dug out a quill that I got when I was in… high school (don’t ask how long ago was that…) and thoroughly enjoy using it!

Tales and Tails

Having a little girl named Ariel (no relation to Disney in origins of this one), mermaids do pop in and out of our sub- and conscious once in a while. So, here’s an obvious manifestation of this slight obsession with girls with long squishy tails Introducing – Dreaming Mermaid:

It’s a hand-colored print mounted on a black paper with hand-drawn “continuation” of the main picture. It’s very pretty and easy to frame. Totally one-of-a-kind, because of the doodles on the “margins” Let me know if you like it!

Shrinky Doodle Dinks

So, this is how it works in my house… I take out my “craft” thingies, and 3 seconds I’m getting mobbed by my girl squad, asking “Can I do that too? Can I have this paper? Can I use your markers?..” Which is pretty cool, and I hope they will share my “oh, I can make anything, if I feel like it” attitude But, they are also like a hurricane (or rather, 2 hurricanes) leaving path of distraction in their wake, which is the main reason I do most of my ‘crafting’ when they’re already in bed
Among the debris left after my daughters’ creative endeavors, was this pile of shrinky dink plastic, from which they carefully cut out their pieces and left big chunks unused.

So, one quiet winter evening, I set up on a mission to make something out of nothing, so to speak. Here is how it went. I cut the leftovers into random shapes, smoothing sharp edges (or sometimes making them) and punching holes as I went. Then I proceeded with doodling on these shapes (some are kinda matching, but mostly it’s as random as the shapes themselves)

After all pieces were cut, punched and drawn upon, I colored them with bright pencils and metallic pens before laying them all out on a lined pan, just so:

The results are very cute, I think. They are rather small (see them next to a quarter), but bright and funky. I’m not sure what I’m going to do with all of them (I’m not meticulous enough to be a good jewelry maker, unfortunately)… we’ll see. Maybe they will magically appear in the Wearable Doodles section of my Doodlage Shop with hand painted wooded beads.

I am quite happy with how these little gems came out and that I saved from being wasted some of the expensive shrinking plastic. How do you make good use of your crafting leftovers? Share, please
