Creative Process
I’ve decided to share parts of my own creative process. Of course, first of all, something exciting and inspiring needs to spark my imagination. In this case, it was clearly the anticipation of the New Moon, the movie. I re-read the end of the book and one character (namely – Heidi, the vampire who brings in the busload of unsuspecting tourists who will serve as a midday snack for the Volturi), who only appears on 2-3 pages, caught my attention. She is not only gorgeous (in the same league as Rosalie, Bella says), but is using her beauty literally as bait to lure the humans. Which makes her simultaneously into a hunter and a bait. I thought it was a very cool concept and since I’ve been wanting to draw a member of the Volturi guard for some time now, I decided to start with Heidi.
I kinda used the idea of the eyes and V as a nose when I made a Jane Rock before, but this time I went a little further and did the whole face.

The V stayed, and the whole head is surrounded by something that can be loosely described as a hood. I added little details, like Volterra’s Tower covered with red flags, drops of blood, a little fish and the Volturi throne (like the one in the movie). I decorated Heidi’s face with some abstract ornamental details, to make a point that she was sort of “dressing up” for the occasion, emphasizing her already obvious beauty and stunning physique, to attract her “catch”.
After doing many sketches and re-drawing the final piece “clean”, like I always do, I scanned it and it was quickly apparent that some correctional cosmetic photoshop “surgery” was necessary off the bat (get it?), to perfect Heidi’s slightly crooked features. This is how it ended up:

After that, I sharpened the image, cleaned it up and started coloring.

A few hours and several dumped layers later, Heidi’s portrait was done, in all her bloody glory. Enjoy ![]()
